SRK Holidays

You may have heard about the "Arctic blast" that's currently blanketing much of the East Coast with ice and snow—but what you won't see on the news are the hundreds of "backyard dogs" who are chained up and left to endure subfreezing temperatures withlittle or no shelter to protect them.

Without your help, many of these dogs won't survive this extreme weather. That's why we desperately need your support to provide 55 dogs with a solid, sturdy straw-filled doghouse—ASAP. Please make an urgent gift right now to help us reach our goal of $15,000 to build 55 doghouses before it's too late for suffering "backyard dogs."

Thank you so much for your compassion for all animals.

Help Cold Dogs This WinterWinter Doghouse

You can prevent dogs like Heaven from suffering through the bitterly cold winter months without any decent shelter.

Heaven before

Dear Vijay,

Living outside is hard enough for a dog—but in the cold, dark wintertime, it can mean months of total misery and never being able to keep warm.

Heaven had nothing to call home but a flimsy plastic box with an open front on a trash-strewn patch of dirt. She was chained to a tree, day in and day out, with little to protect her from frigid winds and the bone-chilling cold of winter.

This sweet dog was in a desperate situation, but then relief arrived in the form of PETA's fieldwork team, which gave her a sturdy new doghouse for shelter. But hundreds more badly neglected dogs will face the harsh winter weather alone in the months to come—unless our fieldworkers are able to step in and provide them with shelter and care before it's too late.

Temperatures are already dropping, putting "outside dogs" in immediate danger. Will you support PETA's lifesaving work by becoming an "Angels for Animals" doghouse sponsor right now?

When our fieldworkers came to Heaven's rescue, she got more than a doghouse to provide some relief from the cold. They also arranged for her to be spayed and treated the flea and tick infestation that had left her skin raw. Her chain was replaced with a lightweight, tangle-free tether, and she was given some much-needed attention and affection.

Like Heaven, many of the animals helped through this vital program have no shelter during even the worst weather. Some have only a metal drum in which water collects and freezes, a leaky crate, or a rickety piece of wood propped against a fence in the mud.

"Angels for Animals" sponsors are compassionate PETA supporters who make our vital work to help these neglected "outside dogs" possible. It costs only $265 to construct a sturdy doghouse that offers durable shelter year-round, through both the winter cold and the summer heat.

PETA doghouses have a slanted roof with an overhang to provide shade in the summer. There's a special door covered with a durable flap to prevent chilling winter winds from entering. Each doghouse sits on a small platform so that the floor remains dry and doesn't rot during wet weather, and we deliver the doghouse filled with straw for additional insulation.

We want all guardians to let their dogs live indoors as loved family members, and PETA's persistent fieldworkers do all they can to persuade people to do just that. But if we can't convince them—and local authorities will not act—then we try hard to get the owners to accept our doghouses and commit to providing other care and attention that these dogs need.

This program is truly life-changing for a dog who lives outside, and as an "Angels for Animals" doghouse sponsor, you can help make that change possible. Please sponsor a doghouse today and help a suffering dog this winter!

Since the beginning of the year, PETA has delivered more than 200 doghouses, but that just scratches the surface of the number of dogs who will be condemned to the cold this winter. I hope you'll consider becoming a PETA "Angels for Animals" doghouse sponsor right now—any gift that you can give, regardless of its size, will be put to work immediately to assist dogs in need.

Thank you for helping neglected, forgotten dogs this winter in such a thoughtful way.

Kind regards,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
